Pet Limerick Poetry Competition

Winner: Pet Limerick
by
Maggie Spooner

Second: Abigail
by
Carol Midwood

A young fitness freak from the Gower
Took his dog for a run in a shower.
They ran in the rain
‘Til it shrank his Great Dane
And now his best friend’s a Chihuahua.

My clever black cat, Abigail,
Can balance a tray on her tail.
Serves Champagne in a flash,
Petits Fours with panache –
But leaves teeth marks on salmon and quail!

• Poetry judge Alison Chisholm said the power of winner Maggie Spooner's entry was 'not so much in what it says as in how it says it'.
