Doris Perley, secretary, Yarm Writers’ Group, Tyneside, wrote to us with a snippet that might wow fellow writers.

It would seem that Yarm Writers have been joined by a new member... nothing unusual in that. But this particular lady, Ann Reid, travels a little further than most. All the way from Philadelphia in the US to be exact.

Doris goes on to explain that Ann’s remarkable commute is not just for the love of the group – her husband travels regularly to the North-East for his work and she accompanies him. ‘She has regaled us with stories of her American upbringing, much coloured by her Italian-born grandmother,’ said Doris, ‘and the variations in English-English and American-English.

‘What a breath of fresh air this outgoing lady is to the group. We are looking forward to some exciting stories on her next visit after her cruise around Antarctica.’

Doris would like to know if Yarm holds the record for the most long-distance member? Can anyone beat it?
