Annual Roy Bartholomew Writing Day
Making crime pay was the theme for the Ormskirk Writers
and Literary Society’s (OWLS) fifth annual Roy Bartholomew
Writing Day.
Held at the Ormskirk Chapel Gallery, the day was considered
the club’s best day yet by many attending.
Speakers were Lynne Patrick, managing director, Crème
de la Crime publishers, and Johnny Ace novelist Ron Ellis.
‘They had their audience keenly participating and
enjoying the information and short workshop sessions provided,’
said president Cecil Beach.

Lynne Patrick will also be judging the annual
Jo Cowell Short Story Competition, which the society has held
successfully every year since 1988. Prizes are £250,
£100 and £50, plus £50 for the ‘best
from the north-west’. Word count is 1,000-2,000; closing
date, 30 September.

OWLS, 62 Greetby Hill, Ormskirk L39 2DT.
Cecil said OWLS would ‘definitely’ welcome new
members. ‘Anyone’s welcome to turn up at the meetings,’
he said. ‘And we offer three free visits before you
sign up. The meetings are always popular and we have a very
varied programme.’
Meetings are on the first and third Tuesday of each month
at the Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, 7.30-10pm; annual membership
is currently £20. In addition to the annual writing
day, the society also holds an annual poetry evening in memory
of former member Dora Doyle. |
