Change of style at London Writer Circle
|
|
The London Writer Circle, which claims to be
the UK’s oldest after 82 years’ activity, is changing
the style of its meetings, after ‘overwhelming demand’
from writers keen to read their own work.
‘The idea is to give writers more chance to read their
own work and to discuss it with other, often more experienced,
members and experts,’ writes committee member Phillip
Riley.
‘This will enable writers to present work in progress
– and to get feedback that can help to shape and improve
the quality of what they write.’
Work for reading at circle meetings can include short stories,
articles, scripts and novel extracts, and beginners are especially
welcome.
To accommodate more readings, the circle has suspended its
programme of visiting speakers, although there will still
be occasional workshops, such as recent ones covering travel
writing and the short story. There is no longer an annual
membership fee; instead, writers will be charged £3
for each meeting they attend.
Details: London Writer Circle meet monthly (upcoming
meetings: 31 July, 25 September, 30 October; all 6.30pm) at
