Forthwrite Writers' Group, Dalgety Bay, Fife
Since its formation eighteen months ago, Forthwrite Writers’
Group, Dalgety Bay, Fife, has gone from strength to strength,
according to founder William Armstrong, with two members
who now have novels available.
‘We are a diverse group, which is quite an advantage
when it comes to assessing each other’s work,’
writes Bill.
‘There are now eleven members, with more in the pipeline.
‘Over the past nine months we have been concentrating
on the preparation of an anthology of short stories entitled
Ripples Across the Bay, which we hope to publish
about mid-summer.
‘At the same time, two of our members, Bill Clinkenbeard
and Colin McPhail, have produced their own novels. Bill’s
novel O is for Oval, Oswald and Osama is an intriguing
tale involving a freelance theologian in covert operations
with the CIA.

‘Colin’s novel, Highland Spirit
of Justice, is a gripping story of the Highland Clearances
in which the central character escapes to America and builds
a new life there.
‘Other members are engaged in biographies, while I intend
to publish my “Jordan” books, a Western series
set in Texas and Arizona.
‘Dalgety Bay is a new town which has expanded rapidly
and it’s been suggested that a writers’ group
could assist in fostering a community spirit.
‘With this in mind the members intend to increase the
meetings to twice monthly.
‘The idea is to use one meeting to deal with more mundane
tasks, finance, membership, publishing and competitions, while
the second meeting would be exclusively a creative writing
seminar.’
New members are welcome at Forthwrite Writers’ Group,
at Dalgety Bay Library, on the first Wednesday of each month,
9.30am; the organisational meeting is the third Wednesday
of the month.
