Fiction successes

Welsh-Canadian subscriber, Carol McCuaig, was already established as an author of non fiction books when, with the dawn of the new Millennium, she decided to try her hand at writing fiction. She allowed herself five years to see how this might work out, and since that time she has met with some success.

Written under the pseudonym, Catriona McCuaig, her first serial was published in The People’s Friend in 2001 and another followed in 2004. Then, having read an article in Writers’ News in which guidelines were given for authors wishing to submit manuscripts for the My Weekly Story Collection, she thought that would be something else to aim for. To date she has sold seven novels there. The first three, To Love Again, Ice Maiden and Out of the Shadows have already appeared in print, while Mail Order Bride is due out this month (October). Waiting in the wings are Ghost Writer, Romany Rose and Dark Moon.

In addition she has just sold a novel to The People’s Friend Story Collection. Down Lilac Lane will be published in 2006.

Carol, a former weekly newspaper editor, says she works best under pressure and that adhering to self-imposed deadlines enables her to keep up the momentum when working on a book
