| Helen’s
healthy writing passion
Helen Clark works part time as a speech
and drama teacher and ‘the other part as a freelance
writer’.
Her main field of interest is health and fitness and she
has recently had several successes in that area having her
work appear online and in three national magazines.
This began in April 2007 when she embarked on a creative
writing course. ‘Although it’s a challenge fitting
in the assignments alongside teaching I have thoroughly
enjoyed the course so far.
'I surprised myself with my new-found passion for writing
magazine articles.
‘I particularly love doing interviews and feel privileged
to be able to share in other people’s interesting
careers.
‘It gives me a buzz knowing that I can help promote
their cause.’
One of her recent pieces is featured in the May issue of
Home and Family and is a humorous look at the names and
characteristics of the various breeds of teenager.
Recently she’s also offered her services for The
Biomatrix including a gym review and feature on boxing
for women in Cheshire.
‘I particularly love doing interviews and feel privileged
to be able to share in other people’s interesting
careers.
‘It gives me a buzz knowing that I can help promote
their cause.’
Working with her local Inside Magazine she has already covered
a Premiership footballer, boxing champion and national and
local sports projects.
‘With regards to future I have just started fiction
writing as part of the Writers Bureau course and will be
covering radio, TV and stage.
‘With a degree in Theatre and a LAMDA gold medal in
acting I hope that this is an area I can get passionate
about too.
‘My advice to others – keep searching for new
leads.
‘Marketing and networking are an important part of
getting yourself noticed.
'When I think I’ve got a good idea for a feature I’m
like a dog with a bone… I won’t let it go until
it’s been accepted by someone!’ |
