From cosy crime to racy romance

New Zealand writer Yvonne Walus has recently taken on a new genre and a new name with the publication of her erotic romance A Slave of My Own Desire, published under the pen name Eve Summers.

Yvonne has written twenty books, mainly in the crime field, and with a change of genre, has had to adapt to a new method of working.

‘Cosy murder mysteries such as mine are chiefly a puzzle. The reader wants to solve the crime before the detective does and to see justice done. You look at things like alibis, time lines, motives, weapons and there is a lot of planning, a lot of details you have to get right.

‘Erotic writing is like writing a romance novel, except that you put in the bedroom scenes. As a writer, you have a lot more freedom in terms of the plot. The hero and heroine can go on a quest, solve a mystery, or take a journey to rediscover themselves. Basically, any plot goes, as long as they find each other at the end. There are usually only two primary characters, with the rest of the cast very much secondary. I find that I do a lot less planning for the erotic books, apart from the bedroom scenes.’

A Slave of My Own Desire has been released by Red Rose Publishing as an e-book and will also be published in print form if sales are high enough.

With a demanding writing and promotion schedule and various blogging commitments, she looks set to be busy for months to come.
