| Melanie Pearce has loved
writing since she was young. Now a full-time Mum and full-time
employee, she still manages to find time for her passion.
‘Even though I work full-time I use my dinner hour at work
to write on my computer on my e-mail and then print the work off
to bring home,’ she explains. ‘I would say to other
parents who find it hard to get time that I know how they feel
but as most authors recommend it really is a case of writing anything
down, anywhere and whatever you can.’
Melanie’s diligence paid off when she completed her children’s
story, Jenna’s Star. She approached a couple of publishers
who regretfully turned her down until she noticed an article in
Writers’ News that described the Fun-2-Learn website, www.fun-2-learn.co.uk
The idea behind the site is to provide stories for parents to
download and read to their children. Fun-2-Learn accepted Melanie’s
story and she received a small fee that ‘felt like gold’
as well as a massive boost in confidence and affirmation as a
writer.
‘When you tell people you are a writer the first thing they
ask you is if you have been published.
‘If you haven’t they tend to look at you a bit funny
but now I can proudly say I am a writer and I have been published.’
Melanie is now starting work on two new projects, one non-fiction
and one fiction.
