Writers'
News subscriber, freelance journalist and poet Sarah
Leavesley has produced a collection of poetry to mark her
sons’ thanksgiving service.
Sarah, Droitwich, Worcestershire, who writes under the pen
name Sarah James, put together Conception in honour
of two-year old Jamie and six-month old Daniel. The 30-year
old, who has completed Writers' News Home Study
courses in poetry and short story writing, came up with
the idea after opting for a thanksgiving service for her
sons instead of the more traditional christening.
She
wanted to give guests a copy of Conception –
which features 33 poems on every aspect of parenthood, from
conception and pregnancy to the first years of life –
to remember the service.
‘The
poems range from light-hearted to intense, emotional and reflective,’
she says. ‘I hope they will be enjoyed by everyone from
poetry-lovers to parents and parents-to-be.’
Sarah is also celebrating the recent publication of her short
story Monday, in the anthology The Remarkable
Everyday, by new independent Legend Press, London N16,
(WN, Sept). ‘This is a great and exciting time for me;
with a new son, this short story publication and my first
poetry collection,’ she says. Conception is available for £3.99 (p&p
£1.25) from Sarah,
