On
moving to Wales, a new creative writing class, inspiring
teacher and the International Eisteddfod encouraged the
budding writer. She had work published in the Church
Times and Mothers’ Union magazine Home and
Family.
‘I learned that including an illustrative colour photo
gained Brownie points and an additional fee,’ she
says.
Now unable to turn off the flow of prose and poetry, Margaret
responded to a request from an American publishing company
featured in WN. Her story, The Chalice,
about the Yorkshire Ripper, was published in an anthology
of true ghost stories in 2004.
‘Of course there have been some stories, poems and
articles which have been returned as unsuitable,’
says Margaret, ‘but these have been outnumbered by
the successes.’
She now contributes monthly to a village magazine, has written
several hymns, and is up to chapter thirteen of a book based
on 40 years of vicarage life.
